All About Balayage

Have you seen the latest craze?! It's all about Balayage, and it’s here to stay!

Balayage comes from the french word meaning “to sweep”. This technique is amazing for the woman on the go, adding beautiful low maintenance dimension to your hair, allowing for longer periods of time between salon visits!

Balayage highlighting is a method of painting hair to create a natural graduated look. It can be done as a natural sun-kissed highlight, or can even be done with a heavier more drastic effect!

Many people ask... “What is the difference between Balayage and Ombré?”

Balayage has a soft, seamless transition between dark and light, giving the appearance of “natural” highlights. Ombré, on the other hand, is more of a “dip dye” look, with a much more abrupt transition.

If you have been looking to go lighter, but have been concerned about the upkeep... this is the PERFECT style for you! Consult with your stylist and see you how you can get this gorgeous, effortless beachy look!

Men's Hair Trends 2015

"The Undercut"
This cut has been the talk of the town for quite a minute. It appeals to lots of types of men, the edgy man with a messy top or the clean cut man who can slick it back. This "undercut" may also transition into the famous man bun or pony.

"The Pomp"
Big hair don't care has graced ourselves with its presence this year. The James Dean and Elvis Presley era is back! Men are liking the short sides with major volume on top.

"The Fade" The Fade has been around for quite some time now. Lately we have been seeing more high and tight or the flat top. Also many men have been doing custom designs to set there fades apart like cut in parts or lines on certain areas of the head.

"The Classic"
The Classic Gentleman cut has never really stopped being in trend. We saw a lot more of it due to the show Mad Men. But its defiantly always a go to for that business man.

Every man has his own style from fun and funky to business casual.
Whats your hair persona?

Fall 2014 Hair Color Trends!

"Red Hair, Don't Care" (the pop of color) So for all you that may be wanting something extreme yet subtle, this Fall can break you out of your shell! One of the many trendy colors this season is that beautiful shade of red! You Have a few choices of how you could incorporate this daring color:

1. A few peekaboo panels.
2. Highlights all throughout.
3. Feathered in with dip died ends.

"Hello Sombre, Goodbye Ombre" (the soft blend) For those of you that were not very fond of the Ombre trend, worry no longer! Sombre is a great soft transition to blending that harsh color line you had from root to ends. Think of the "S" as the key indication of a softer ombre. This is a great way of making your color look natural instead of intentional or that you just didn't have time to get your roots done (lol).  The technique of sombre can be used in any color situation, Blonde/Carmel/Pastel etc.

"Dimensional Blonde" (the sun kissed
hair with a soft base) The dimensional blonde is a subtle yet noticeable addition to your already beautiful blonde locks. Many stylists like to add dimension around the fall to give your hair a extent of magnitude! Just like the seasons that change, your hair can also have a slight change. Now this trend has a soft brown base instead of those bright summer base colors. Just have fun with it! <3
I hope to see all you lovely ladies try some of these Fall trends out!  You Can do it!

No matter what you'll always be beautiful...fabulous...and, most of all,  YOU!

Green With A Lot Less Envy

Photo Via: Bri Emery/Instagram: @designlovefest

From sun damaged hair to chlorinated green ends, the Summer months bring some interesting hair challenges. Most of which can be solved with the right prep work and product so you can go on vacation (or stay-cation) with out having to worry about your locks.

Poolside or Under the Sea
Don't get me wrong, there is something special about fresh out of the ocean beach hair. It's one of my all-time favorite looks, but if you are going to be in the sun and salt or chlorinated water for an extended period of time a little protection can go a long way.  To avoid dry, fragile ends from becoming a summertime souvenir you need to remember two things: water and conditioner.

    • Before you head out, pre-rinse your hair in the shower.
    • Wring out the excess water. You want the hair to be wet, but not dripping.
    • While your hair is still damp, apply conditioner through the mid-lengths and ends and comb through.
    • Here is the important part, don't rinse! Leave your hair wet with the conditioner still in.
    • Rock a loose braid or a cute top knot for the day.
    • After your day of fun in the sun use a clarifying shampoo, like Pureology Purify, to remove any unwanted product or toxins on your hair and condition as usual.

Seeing Green?
There is a few things you can do to remedy the unwanted pastel dip die look:

    • Ketchup/Tomato Paste: As much as this seems like an old wives tale, this actually works (Thanks Grandma!). Apply to the affected areas and let sit for 20 or so minutes. Rinse thoroughly and shampoo with a clarifying shampoo for good measure.
    • Baking Soda: Make a baking soda solution. Using a mixture of one tablespoon of baking soda to one cup of water distribute through the hair while in the shower. Work through the hair for a few minutes and rinse thoroughly. You can then follow your normal shampooing routine.
    • Malibu C Swimmers Treatment: This treatment uses crystals made from ascorbic acid, betaine and organic aloe vera leaf to remove the mineral deposits that cause the green tint while restoring the hair's shine and softness. This is a more professional alternative to the at-home treatments (and it won't leave your hair smelling like ketchup).

Think of your hair as a sponge. If it is wet and lathered in conditioner, it won't have room to soak up the salt water and chlorine that can lead to dry, fragile ends. For an extension client, I can not stress this prep work enough. It's a simple extra step to avoid the harsh removal process or a possible unwanted haircut at the end of a trip. So lather up, and enjoy a good hair day all Summer long.

Why don't you wear a headband in your hair?

As Summer quickly approaches, my hair accessory collection seems to rise in numbers as fast as the temperature.  During the warmer months, headbands are my favorite accessory to add  for a little bit of sparkle and style to add to any outfit without having to wear bulky jewelry. You can take them from the beach, to a night out, a wedding with a simple up-do, or use them for a cute, relaxed bohemian look with loose waves.  Thankfully for everyone's wallet, you can find one that hits every trend for just a few dollars or even DIY your own.
